Pennies for Peace

The members of ATAC, the teen advisory group at the Athol Public Library, recently conducted a Pennies for Peace campaign.  They raised $288 to promote education in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.  A penny does not buy much here in Athol, but, with the pennies collected, Central Asia Institute will be able to provide one advanced student’s scholarship for a year.  The members would like to thank the local businesses for providing counter space for the containers and their customers for giving so generously to this project.  They would also like to thank the Athol Savings Bank employees who counted the pennies.  In the photo, from left to right, are bank employees Jennifer Pirro, Kelsey Contois, Monika Jordan, and ATAC member Kensi Pierce.

  Booked for Lunch

The group meets from noon to 1 p.m. and anyone is welcome to join.  Come to all or only one session.

The fall / winter schedule is:

September 28: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

October 26: The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion

November 23: The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig

December 28: The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs

Bring your lunch and we'll provide brownies and beverages.  Books are available at the library for loan.

 Clean-Up Crew

Members of ATAC, the teen advisory group at the Athol Public Library, recently helped to get Silver Lake Park ready for the summer season by picking up trash.  They were rewarded for their hard work with a picnic at the pavilion.  From left to right are Julie Avery, Samantha Salisbury, Chris Jimenez, Emily Boughton, Phoenix Thompson, Dan King, Carina Casiano, Darlene Jimenez, Ally Avery, Katie Avery, and Sonia Sierra.
