The Library Mascot
The idea for a mascot began when some staff members visited the Monson Free Library and Buster, the cat that libraries mascot. After a round of brainstorming among the staff the idea of a wizard was accepted. Staff member, Linda Lindgren, took it upon herself to produce the perfect wizard. Her design and hand creation of this wizard has produced an exceptional creation and he has become special to all of us. Staff and patrons alike.
Several contests and publicity were used to spread the word of our new library mascot. While waiting for the unveiling, patrons would submit guesses as to what was under the shimmering cloth used to cover it. The next contest was to name the mascot and there were many names to choose from. Eventually the name Biblio became the winning choice. Many other contest have been held with Biblio in mind. Bookmark creating, trivia...have all been tried.
Biblio has been used in many events outside the library, including Rotary meetings and Elementary School visits. His icon also marks the library column in the local paper. We hope many more opportunities will come up in which we can use Biblio.
Periodically, Biblio takes excursions around our area and sends pictures to the Athol Daily News. Our friends and neighbors can try to guess where Biblio went each week. Those who guess correctly win a chance at a weekly prize. Watch our site for the next "Where's Biblio?" contest.
