Dear Parents:
Summer vacation is here again. Our wishes for your children are that they have a wonderful summer filled with outdoor play, perhaps camp or travel, and adventures with parents, friends and family. On rainy or hot days we would love to have all our students read. Students who read frequently tend to do better in school.
Following are some informational guidelines to parents and students about our Summer Reading Challenge.
Students going into…….
Grades K-1-2 We encourage parents to read to their child or have their child read to them.
Requirement: 10 books and complete two sandwich book reports.
Grades 3-4-5 We encourage students to read at least 2 chapter books.
Requirement: Two chapter books having at least 10 chapters or the equivalent of 20 chapters, and complete two book reports as outlined on the attached pages.
Note: Students who participate in Athol Public Library book discussions with Mrs. Shaughnessy may count the reading and discussions of books as a book report. ( Must have signed note stating student participation.)
All students should keep a listing of the books they have read and turn in the reports and lists on the first day of school next fall. Students completing the required reading and book reports will be rewarded with a special surprise and bulletin board recognition during the first week of school.
Please be advised that none of the above activities are required, they are designed to help your child review, retain and build literacy skills throughout the summer.
The summer reading list is also available at the Athol Public Library at www.athollibrary.org
We hope you and your family have a safe and happy summer vacation!
