Dear PC Doctor:
Recently, when trying to open a document I created in Microsoft Publisher 2007, my computer keeps trying to open it with of Microsoft Office 2010. I do not have Microsoft Office 2010, and have never used it. My computer does have the trial version of 2010. How do I get my computer to stop giving me that pop-up window and just open my document in the program I used to make it?
Thanks for your help, Robin
Dear Robin:
How frustrating!
Here’s something to try: When you are ready to open the file, right-click. You should get a menu that includes “Open with” as a choice. Choose “Open with.” Next, you will see a drop-down menu with 3 choices. Choose “Choose default program.” You see a list of programs. Click on the program that you want to always use to open this kind of file.
Alternatively, you can remove the trial version of Microsoft Office 2010 from your computer. To do that, follow these steps:
Go to Control Panel.
If you are using Windows XP, choose “Add/Remove Programs.”
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, choose “Programs and Features.”
You should see a list of programs. Find the Microsoft Office 2010 trial. Click on it and then click “Uninstall” at the top of the page or on the “Change/Uninstall” item that opens on the line of the program. Please be careful to choose only the program you really want to uninstall! It will be removed from your computer and you won’t be able to use it anymore.
If that fails then uninstall using Fixit from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
I hope this helps!
Until next time…Happy computing!
