Dear PC Doctor:
I get so much email! Sometimes, I really need to find an important message, or one with an attachment that I need to print, and it feels like I’m just endlessly scrolling without success. Are there any tips you can share to make finding the right email message easier?
Thanks,
Lost
Dear Lost:
Most email apps have a way for you to sort or filter your messages. For example, if you’re using the Mail app on your iPhone, look at the bottom left of your Inbox screen. You’ll see a circle with three lines, sort of the inverse of the wifi signal icon. Tap that. The text at the very bottom center of your phone screen should read Filtered by and then, in blue, it will show what criteria are being used to filter your messages. You can tap the blue text to see what your options are. You can choose to show only messages with attachments, only messages from certain people, etc.
If you’re using Gmail on a desktop computer, look at the top of your inbox screen. There’s a window labeled Search mail. You can either type your search terms in there or look to the right – There will be an image of three sliders. Click that to show your search options.
If you are using a different email app on a different device, an internet search for email filtering/sorting options on that device should give you what you need to know.
I hope this helps!
Until next time,
Happy computing!
